Day 2 Gurez Valley
Srinagar to Gurez Valley (The High Passes)
Drive Time: 5–6 hours (approx. 130 km).
The Plan: Start by 7:00 AM. This drive is spectacular but demands an early start. You’ll pass through Bandipora and then climb up the dramatic Razdan Pass (11,672 ft), where you must stop for a hot cup of tea and incredible mountain views. Descend into the border valley of Gurez along the turquoise Kishanganga River.
Stay: Dawar (Gurez) -
Day 3 Gurez Valley
Exploring the Border Beauty of Gurez
The Plan: Gurez is beautifully raw and peaceful. Spend your day marveling at the iconic, pyramid-shaped Habba Khatoon peak. Visit the central town of Dawar to witness the traditional log-wood Kashmiri homes. Spend your afternoon sitting by the Kishanganga River or exploring the nearby pristine villages like Tulail (if road conditions and local permissions allow).
Stay: Dawar (Gurez) -
Day 4 Gulmarg
Gurez Valley to Tangmarg
Drive Time: 6–7 hours.
The Plan: Another long but beautiful transit day. You'll retrace your steps back over the Razdan Pass, bypass Srinagar, and head towards North Kashmir. End your day in the lush, pine-covered foothills of Tangmarg. It’s much quieter here than up in Gulmarg proper, making for a peaceful evening.
Stay: Tangmarg -
Day 5 Gulmarg
Tangmarg to Gulmarg (Meadows & Gondola)
Drive Time: 30–45 mins.
The Plan: Head up the winding road to Gulmarg early to beat the day-tripper crowds. Your main highlight today is the Gulmarg Gondola. Take Phase 1 to Kungdoor meadow, and if you have tickets, head up to Phase 2 (Apharwat Peak at 14,000 ft) for a view of the high-alpine snow. In the afternoon, take a leisurely walk around the golf course and visit the historic St. Mary’s Church.
Stay: Drung -
Day 6 Duksum
Drung Waterfall to Daksum Valley (Hidden Gem)
Drive Time: 4.5–5 hours total.
The Plan: First thing in the morning, make a quick stop at the nearby Drung Waterfall to see the mountain stream rushing through the gorge. From there, embark on a scenic drive across the valley to South Kashmir’s hidden paradise: Daksum. Part of the Bringi River valley, Daksum is completely uncommercialized—filled with dense coniferous forests, rushing streams, and total solitude.
Stay: Daksum -
Day 7 Pahalgam
Daksum to Pahalgam
Drive Time: 2 hours (approx. 65 km).
The Plan: Enjoy a peaceful morning walk in the quiet forests of Daksum before heading out towards Pahalgam. As you enter Pahalgam, the Lidder River will accompany you. Spend your afternoon relaxing by the riverbank or walking around the local market.
Stay: Pahalgam -
Day 8 Pahalgam
Pahalgam Valley Exploration
The Plan: Dedicate today to exploring Pahalgam's stunning outer valleys. Hire a local union cab to visit Aru Valley (a gorgeous, peaceful meadow village) and Betaab Valley (famed for its lush landscapes and clear river streams). If you prefer a bit of adventure, you can opt for a pony ride up to Baisaran Meadow, often called "Mini Switzerland."
Stay: Pahalgam -
Day 9
Pahalgam to Katra Drop
Drive Time: 6–7 hours (approx. 210 km).
The Plan: Your final transit. Start early in the morning to account for traffic on the national highway and the Jammu-Srinagar bypass routes. The drive takes you through the Chenani-Nashri tunnel and down into the foothills, dropping you safely at your hotel or the railway station in Katra.
