Explore Tso Moriri Lake Tourism
Tso Moriri Lake, also known as Lake Moriri or Mountain Lake, is nestled in the Changthang Plateau of Ladakh region in Jammu & Kashmir, India. It is among the highest altitude lakes in India, situated at an altitude of 4,522 meters (14,836 ft) above sea level. The lake is approximately 28 km long and about 100 feet deep, surrounded by beautiful barren hills, with the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. Tso Moriri has been declared a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. The area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and a habitat for numerous species of birds and the rare Tibetan wolf. The lake is fed by springs and snowmelt from neighboring mountains. Due to its high altitude location, the climate is cold with the lake water remaining frozen during winter. The serene and pristine beauty of Tso Moriri attracts travelers seeking tranquility and nature. The area is culturally significant with the Korzok monastery, one of the highest settlements on the planet, situated on the northwest bank of the lake.
