San Thome Cathedral, also known as St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica and National Shrine of Saint Thomas, is a historical and religious edifice in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The cathedral is built over the tomb of one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, Saint Thomas, who is believed to have brought Christianity to India. The present neo-Gothic structure, white in color, was built in 1893 and was elevated to the status of a basilica in 1956. Its stained glass windows, wooden carvings, and the tomb chapel beneath the sanctum make it a significant pilgrimage site for Christians. The basilica also features a museum that contains relics associated with St. Thomas and other Christian saints.
