MuCEM, or the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, is a national museum located in Marseille, France, founded on 7 June 2013. It is devoted to showcasing the historical and cultural aspects of Mediterranean civilization through an interdisciplinary approach. Situated at the entrance to the harbor, the museum is part of the city's efforts to regenerate the port area. MuCEM includes exhibitions on the history, culture, and civilization of European and Mediterranean countries. The building, designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, is a striking example of contemporary architecture, featuring a cubic structure surrounded by a latticework shell made of fiber-reinforced concrete. It is connected to the historic Fort Saint-Jean by a high footbridge. MuCEM comprises two sites: the J4 building which is the main structure hosting temporary exhibitions and cultural events, and the Fort Saint-Jean displaying permanent collections. It offers stunning views of the sea and the city, combining cultural experiences with an impressive setting. The museum has become an integral part of Marseille's cultural landscape and a symbol of the city's renewal.
