Explore Guptkashi Tourism

Guptkashi is a picturesque town situated in the Northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, within the district of Rudraprayag. It's enshrined with immense religious significance, owing to its proximity to the sacred Kedarnath temple, one of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The town is nestled amidst lush greenery, with the backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Guptkashi is known for its ancient Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, resembling the more famous shrine in Varanasi. Another significant shrine is the Ardhanarishvara Temple, which celebrates the half-male, half-female form of Lord Shiva. The culture and architecture of Guptkashi are a confluence of natural beauty and spirituality. Fables suggest that this was the location where Shiva proposed to Parvati. Additionally, during the infamous Mahabharata war, the Pandavas are said to have sought the blessings of Shiva here. The town also offers breathtaking views of the Mandakini River flowing below. Guptkashi serves as an important stopover for pilgrims on their way to Kedarnath, especially when the routes to the temple are closed due to severe weather conditions.
