Kerala, located on the southwestern coast of India, is famous for its serene backwaters, delicious cuisine, and rich cultural heritage. One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Kerala is by embarking on a houseboat vacation. Nestled amidst the tranquil backwaters, these houseboats provide a unique and unforgettable experience for families.
Why Choose a Houseboat Vacation in Kerala?
Kerala's backwaters are a network of interconnected canals, rivers, and lakes that stretch across the state. These waterways offer a picturesque landscape of lush green paddy fields, coconut groves, and quaint villages. Houseboats, locally known as "kettuvallams," are traditional wooden boats that have been transformed into floating homes, complete with bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, and a dining area. They are the perfect choice for families looking for a memorable and immersive vacation experience.
Comfort and Luxury
Houseboats in Kerala are equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for the entire family. The bedrooms are spacious and cozy, equipped with comfortable beds and air conditioning. The bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. Some houseboats even have a living room, allowing families to relax and spend quality time together. The onboard kitchen serves delicious traditional Kerala cuisine, prepared by experienced chefs. It's a delight to savor the flavors of Kerala while cruising through the backwaters.
Explore the Backwaters
One of the main attractions of a houseboat vacation is the opportunity to explore the mesmerizing backwaters of Kerala. As you cruise along the waterways, you will witness the beauty of the lush green surroundings, lined with coconut trees swaying in the gentle breeze. You can also spot local wildlife, such as colorful kingfishers, majestic herons, and playful otters. The houseboat will take you through narrow canals, wide lakes, and peaceful lagoons, allowing you to experience the tranquility of Kerala's backwaters up close.
Activities for the Whole Family
A houseboat vacation in Kerala offers a variety of activities that the whole family can enjoy. You can go fishing in the backwaters and try your luck at catching some local fish. Some houseboats also offer a canoe ride, where you can paddle through the smaller canals and explore hidden corners of the backwaters. In the evening, you can witness a mesmerizing sunset while sipping on a cup of hot tea. You can also indulge in traditional Kerala Ayurvedic massages onboard the houseboat, rejuvenating your mind and body.
Cost and Duration
The cost of a houseboat vacation in Kerala depends on the type of houseboat chosen and the duration of the stay. Prices start from around ₹8,000 per night for a basic houseboat and can go up to ₹25,000 per night for a luxury houseboat. Most houseboat packages include meals and sightseeing activities.
