Explore Cherrapunjee Tourism

Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra, is a small town situated in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India. It is renowned for its lush green landscapes and is historically known as one of the wettest places on Earth due to its exceptionally high rainfall. Cherrapunji's living root bridges, constructed by the indigenous Khasi people, are a natural wonder, woven from the roots of the Ficus elastica tree. These bridges strengthen over time and are unique to the region. The town and surrounding region boast numerous waterfalls, including Nohkalikai and Seven Sisters Falls, that are especially powerful during the monsoon season. Cherrapunji also offers visitors awe-inspiring views of the plains of Bangladesh. It is steeped in cultural heritage, with diverse flora and fauna adding to its natural beauty. Trekking, caving, and exploring the local culture are popular activities. The town has a market center where visitors can enjoy local foods and buy traditional handicrafts.
