Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Closed in: Open all year
Situated around 6 km from Cherrapunji in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India, Mawsmai Cave is one of the prime attractions for tourists visiting the North-Eastern part of the country. Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra, is famous for being one of the wettest places on earth, and the caves are a testament to the region's natural beauty. The cave is a limestone cave and has a length of about 150 meters; it is one of the few caves in the area that is lit enough to enable tourists to enjoy the various formations inside. The stalactites and stalagmites caves have amazing shapes and patterns formed by mineral deposition over thousands of years. The cave has a spacious opening but narrows down into small passageways which is thrilling to navigate. The humid climate of the cave supports a certain kind of flora and fauna unique to this ecosystem. Although the cave system is long, only a small portion is open for visitors to prevent damage to the cave's ecology.

Thrilling!
Luckily we went on a sunny day, so the rocks were not wet. It is a very tight squeeze in some places, would not recommend for older/claustrophobic people. Even young people should be extremely careful..

Scary but exciting
There are 2 caves that you can visit. It was exciting but also a bit scary. I was imagining what would happen if there was an electrical outage!

Similar to other caves I have seen
Since we had time, we decided to visit. It wasn't any different from other caves we have seen. Recommend it if you have an hour to kill.
