Explore Ooty Tourism
Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, is a popular hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Known for its picturesque landscapes, tea gardens, and mild climate, it is often referred to as 'The Queen of the Hills'. Ooty was originally a tribal land occupied by the Toda and Badagas, among other tribes who coexisted through trade of fresh produce. The establishment of numerous tea estates made it a significant part of the region's economy. Its natural beauty includes rolling hills, coniferous forests, scenic lakes like Ooty Lake and Avalanche Lake, and various gardens and parks. Ooty's rich biodiversity is showcased within the Government Botanical Garden and Mukurthi National Park, also offering opportunities for trekking and camping. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a historic and picturesque route to reach Ooty. The town serves as a getaway from the tropical heat of southern India and attracts tourists throughout the year, with peak season in the summer months.
