Ajami is a historical neighborhood located in the southern part of Jaffa, which is now part of Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality in Israel. This residential area is named after the Ajami family, a wealthy Arab family that settled there in the late 19th century. Ajami has evolved from its roots as a quiet village area to become a vibrant, mixed community of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The neighborhood is known for its architectural mix, featuring old Palestinian houses as well as modern apartment buildings that offer a view of the Mediterranean Sea. Ajami's demographic has shifted over time due to gentrification which has introduced a variety of artistic and bohemian elements into this historic enclave. The cobbled streets, local markets, and the nearby Jaffa Port add to the area's distinct character. The Ajami neighborhood has been the subject of international recognition due to the film 'Ajami', co-directed by Yaron Shani and Scandar Copti, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2010. Additionally, the neighborhood has seen several development projects aimed at preserving its cultural heritage while enhancing the living conditions for its residents.
