Type of destination: Religious Site
Budha Subba Temple is a revered religious site situated in the city of Dharan, in the eastern region of Nepal. Legend has it that the site has its roots tied to an indigenous Kirati priest, Budha Subba, and his practice of archery. Upon his death, bamboo shoots are said to have grown from his grave, which believers in the area deem sacred. These bamboo shoots still surround the temple today and are one of its unique features, as visitors tie coins to them as part of their offerings, hoping to get their wishes granted. Apart from its religious significance, the temple offers a peaceful environment and is surrounded by lush vegetation, which adds to its serene ambiance. Additionally, the temple provides panoramic views of the surrounding towns and countryside, including the tea gardens of Ilam in clear weather. It is a blend of both natural and spiritual experiences and is frequented by a diverse group of pilgrims and tourists. The vibrancy of local customs and rituals during festivals adds to the temple's allure, making it a reflection of living faith and tradition.
