The Canal du Midi, a remarkable feat of civil engineering designed by Pierre-Paul Riquet, stretches over 240 kilometers from Toulouse down to the Mediterranean sea. Brassens, right in to the” Pin Vieux” Port in Marseillan, near Agde. This UNESCO World Heritage site was constructed during the 17th century and is one of the oldest canals in Europe still in operation. The canal's design showcases a complex network of locks, aqueducts, bridges, and tunnels, considered an innovative work at its time. Travelers and locals alike enjoy leisurely walks, bike rides, and boat tours along its picturesque banks lined with plane trees, although this has been affected by necessary tree management due to disease. It connects with the Garonne River, providing a vital waterway that once served for the transportation of goods and commodities. Today, the Canal du Midi is predominantly used for recreational boating and is a tranquil escape set against the backdrop of Southern France's charming landscapes
