The Church of the Holy Virgin Mary is a historical Russian Orthodox church located in Zaqatala, a city in northwest Azerbaijan. Constructed in the 19th century, it is an architectural monument reflecting the religious and cultural diversity of the region. Surrounded by scenic natural beauty with a backdrop of the Caucasus Mountains, the church stands as an emblem of the Russian influence in the Caucasus during the Tsarist period. Although largely abandoned after the October Revolution and the subsequent Soviet anti-religion campaigns, the church's structure has survived the test of time. It showcases traditional Russian church architectural features with its cross-shaped plan, domes, and an imposing bell tower. The church is made mostly of stone, which has allowed it to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the area. Today, it is a poignant reminder of Zaqatala's multicultural past and is a site of historical significance attracting both local and international visitors interested in the cultural heritage and religious architecture of Azerbaijan.
