Konak Square is the bustling heart of Izmir, located in the city's central Konak district. It is home to one of Izmir's most iconic landmarks, the Konak Clock Tower. This historic clock tower, which stands at a height of 25 meters, was designed by the French architect Raymond Charles Péré and built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's accession to the throne. Made of marble and decorated with Ottoman motifs, the tower features four fountains placed around its base and an elegant clock at the top, which was a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II. The clock tower is not just a symbol of Izmir but also an important meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Adjacent to the tower is the Konak Yali Mosque and the bustling Kemeralti Bazaar, adding to the cultural and commercial significance of the square. Konak Square also serves as a transportation hub, with many buses and the historical tram starting here, providing easy access to other parts of the city.
