Lahij Village is a quaint and ancient settlement located in the Ismailli district of Azerbaijan, nestled amidst the Great Caucasus mountains. Renowned for its authentic craftsmanship and cobbled streets, Lahij has established itself as a significant center for arts and crafts, particularly copper work. The village's architecture is quite distinctive, with the houses constructed of river stones, wood, and sheathed metal, reflecting the adaptation to the challenging mountainous terrain. The village is also known for its historic sewage system, which dates back over a thousand years and represents one of the earliest forms of infrastructure in the East. Lahij preserves its rich cultural heritage, language, and traditions, with artisans passing down their skills from generation to generation. It's a living museum, offering a unique glimpse into the past with its well-preserved buildings, ancient mosques, and bustling bazaar. The isolation provided by the mountains has allowed the inhabitants to maintain a distinct cultural identity, with their own dialect of the Tat language which is spoken nowhere else in the world.
