The National Museum of Taiwanese Literature (NMTL) is a prestigious institution dedicated to preserving, researching, and promoting Taiwanese literature. Located in Tainan, the cultural heart of Taiwan, the museum is housed in a historic building that was formerly the Tainan Prefecture government building during Japanese rule. The museum's architecture itself is a blend of Western and Japanese styles, serving as a monument to the historical influences that shaped Taiwan. Opened in October 2003, the NMTL provides insights into the diverse ethnic groups and languages that contribute to Taiwanese literature, including works in Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Austronesian languages. Its collection includes books, manuscripts, periodicals, and other literary works, some of which date back to the Qing dynasty and the Japanese colonial period. The museum features permanent and temporary exhibitions, a library, and spaces for lectures and workshops, aiming to educate and inspire visitors about Taiwan's literary heritage.
