The Poi Kalyan Complex is an Islamic religious complex located in the historic city of Bukhara, Uzbekistan. Serving as the spiritual heart of the city, Poi Kalyan dates back to the 12th century, although most of what stands today was constructed during the 16th century. Dominating the skyline, the complex's main structure is the Kalyan Minaret, which is approximately 47 meters tall and was intended as a beacon for travelers and a call to prayer for the faithful. Adjacent to the minaret is the Kalyan Mosque, with space to accommodate up to 12,000 people in its open courtyard surrounded by galleries. The mosque was a centre of scholarship and worship, playing a significant role in the Islamic world. Madrasah Mir-i-Arab, another key component of the complex, is an active religious institution that contributed significantly to the spread of Islam throughout Central Asia. This architectural ensemble embodies Bukhara's historical and cultural significance, showcasing intricate tile work, grand domes, and sculpted arches, thus reflecting the zenith of Islamic art and architecture in the region.
