Poppelsdorf Palace (Poppelsdorfer Schloss) is a grand historical structure situated in the Poppelsdorf district of Bonn, Germany. This Baroque-style palace was constructed in the first half of the 18th century under the commission of the Prince-Elector Clemens August of Bavaria. The architect responsible for its design was the Frenchman Robert de Cotte, a master of Baroque architecture. Its construction began in 1715 and was completed by 1740. The palace is renowned for its magnificent façade and the alignment with the Bonn main building, which used to be a residence for the prince-elector as well. The gardens surrounding the palace are designed in a French Baroque style and transition into a landscape park. Today, the palace houses part of the University of Bonn's natural science collections and serves as a stunning backdrop for the Botanical Garden of the University of Bonn, which boasts a wide array of plant species. The palace's architecture and the botanical gardens make it a place of impressive beauty and intellectual heritage, as visitors can explore scientific collections and enjoy the tranquility of the garden's natural splendor.
