The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen are one of the most famous baroque gardens in Europe, harking back to the 17th century. Situated in Hanover, Germany, they consist of the Great Garden (Grosser Garten), the Berggarten, the Georgengarten, and the Welfengarten. The Great Garden is the most significant part, designed in the French baroque style, complete with manicured hedges, elaborate sculptures, and grand fountains, including the Great Fountain which can reach heights of up to 82 meters. Notable features include the ornate Herrenhausen Palace, the Gallery building, and the Garden Theatre. The Berggarten has transformed over time into a botanical garden with over 11,000 species of plants. The Georgengarten is an English-style landscape park, and the Welfengarten, now part of the University of Hanover, has a more academic atmosphere. The gardens are a testament to the zenith of royal garden art and continue to be a place of cultural events, festivals, and fireworks competitions.
