Schnoor Quarter is a historic district located in the medieval city center of Bremen, Germany. Known for its narrow alleys, quaint buildings, and distinct architecture, Schnoor is the oldest quarter in Bremen. The name 'Schnoor' originates from the Low German word for 'string', as the district's layout is reminiscent of strings of pearls. The area dates back to the early 13th century, and it was traditionally a district of fishermen, owing to its proximity to the Balge, a former tributary of the Weser river. Many of the buildings in Schnoor feature a charming, traditional North German timber-framed style, and some are over 300 years old. Today, the neighborhood is a prominent cultural hub, hosting a variety of small boutiques, galleries, cafes, and artisan shops. Visitors can enjoy walking through the meandering lanes, exploring local art, savoring traditional German cuisine, and experiencing the atmosphere of a bygone era. Besides the picturesque aesthetic, Schnoor is also home to the Packhaustheater, a small theater that is another intriguing aspect of the area.
