Tasitolu Peace Park in Dili, Timor-Leste is a significant site for both its historical value and its natural beauty. The park consists of three saline lakes, which are surrounded by a lush, hilly landscape. These three lakes give Tasitolu its name, which means 'three waters' in Tetum, the local language. The area has been a place for both ceremonial purposes and everyday activities. Tasitolu also holds a place in the modern history of Timor-Leste, as it was chosen by Pope John Paul II for a mass and the sanctification of the ground during his visit in 1989, prior to the country’s independence from Indonesia. The park serves as a monument for peace and reconciliation, reflecting the resilience of the Timorese people after years of conflict. The site includes a large statue of Pope John Paul II to commemorate his role in the struggle for peace. It is also home to diverse bird species, making it a popular destination for bird watchers.
