The Terskey Alatau Range is a prominent mountain system located in the northeastern part of Kyrgyzstan, near the city of Karakol. This range is part of the larger Tian Shan Mountains and stretches approximately 354 kilometers along the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul. Renowned for its dramatic alpine scenery, the Terskey Alatau Range boasts rugged peaks, numerous glaciers, and deep valleys that have been carved by ancient glacial activity. Its highest peak is Karakol Peak, reaching an impressive 5,216 meters above sea level. The range is a paradise for trekkers, mountaineers, and nature enthusiasts who are drawn to its unspoiled natural beauty and diverse wildlife. The traditional Kyrgyz nomadic culture is also a significant aspect of the region, with local herders moving their livestock to high mountain pastures during the summer months. The Ala-Kul Lake, hidden among the peaks, is a popular trekking destination. The Terskey Alatau is also an important source of rivers that feed into Lake Issyk-Kul, a saline lake that never freezes due to its depth and slight salinity, making it a unique ecosystem within the mountain range.
