Ajloun Wildlife Reserve is situated in the Ajloun highlands of Jordan, encompassing an area of 13 square kilometers. It was established in 1988 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) as a sanctuary for native wildlife and biodiversity. The reserve is characterized by its lush forests, picturesque slopes, and a diverse ecosystem that includes evergreen oaks, strawberry trees, pistachio trees, and wild carob. It supports a variety of wildlife such as the roe deer, wild boar, and numerous species of birds and butterflies. Ajloun Reserve is also home to several archaeological sites, including the ruins of Mar Elias, an ancient monastery. The area has a rich cultural history, with evidence of human habitation dating back thousands of years. Visitors to the reserve can enjoy guided nature walks, night tours, bird watching, and a stay at the eco-friendly Ajloun cabins. The conservation efforts by RSCN aim to protect the region's natural heritage while promoting sustainable eco-tourism that benefits local communities.
