Must-Try Foods In Ak Saray Palace (Shakhrisabz) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Ak-Saray Palace, Shakhrisabz, Uzbekistan

The Ak-Saray Palace, located in Shakhrisabz, has a rich history dating back to the conquests of Timur (Tamerlane) in the 14th and 15th centuries. As the birthplace of Timur, Shakhrisabz was a significant city and the Ak-Saray Palace was intended to be an emblem of his power. While little is known about the specific food traditions within the palace, Uzbek cuisine, in general, is derived from the nomadic and sedentary peoples who have inhabited Central Asia, particularly the Silk Road merchants and conquerors. The fertile region around Shakhrisabz likely contributed to a varied diet that included grains, fruits, herbs, dairy, and meats (other than cow meat, which we are not discussing).
