Al Hoota Cave, located near the town of Al Hamra in Oman, is a popular natural attraction in the region of Nizwa. It is one of the largest cave systems in the Arabian Peninsula, estimated to be over 2 million years old. The cave extends for about 4.5 kilometers, with only a portion accessible to visitors. Inside, the cave boasts an array of stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal-clear underground lakes housing the rare blind cave fish, known as Garra Barreimiae. The cave's interior is atmospherically lit, revealing the intricate formations and geological features that tell a millennia-old natural history. Educational tours guide visitors through a 500-meter long pathway, equipped with safety measures and informative presentations on the cave's ecology and geology. The Al Hoota Cave is known for its substantial ecological diversity, including various species of bats, arthropods, and mollusks.
