Alexandrowka Russian Colony is a historic settlement in Potsdam, Germany, consisting of thirteen wooden houses built in the Russian style. It was founded in 1826 by King Frederick William III of Prussia as a homage to his deep friendship with Tsar Alexander I of Russia. The colony was intended to house the Russian singers of the First Prussian Regiment of the Guards. The picturesque ensemble, designed by the architect Peter Joseph Lenné, is situated in the northern part of Potsdam and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that includes the palaces and parks of Sanssouci. Alexandrowka's houses and the surrounding gardens exhibit the typical Russian architectural features with ornately carved window frames and wooden facades. The area also includes a Russian Orthodox chapel, which was consecrated in 1829. Today, Alexandrowka is not only a residential area but also a cultural venue that hosts various events and exhibitions, preserving the Russian-German heritage and fostering cultural exchange. It is a place of historical significance and provides a unique insight into the Russo-Prussian ties of the 19th century.
