Alpan Village is a small, traditional settlement in Khinalug, one of the highest, most ancient, and continuously inhabited villages in the Caucasus Mountains of Azerbaijan. Historically referred to as Khinalig, it is perched at an altitude of about 2,350 meters above sea level. The village has preserved its unique way of life, exotic language, and customs for centuries, partly due to the secluded location, surrounded by tall mountain ridges. The architecture of Khinalug is distinctive, with houses constructed out of local materials and built densely one upon another, adapting to the rugged mountainous terrain. The climate here is typically cold with snow covering the village for most of the year. Despite this, the locals are known for their warmth and hospitality. Hiking and discovering ancient petroglyphs, historic graveyards, and a stunning panorama of the Caucasus are some of the activities visitors enjoy. The village's remoteness and the rough road leading to it contribute to the visitors' sense of adventure and discovery.
