Balpakram National Park, located in the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, India, is a biodiverse area renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The name 'Balpakram' translates to the 'Land of Perpetual Winds' in the local Garo language. This national park is often referred to as the 'Abode of Perpetual Winds' and holds significant importance for the Garo people, who believe it to be a sacred place. It is said to be the abode of the dead spirits and has many mysterious and unnatural phenomena associated with it. Covering an area of approximately 220 square kilometers, Balpakram offers diverse topography, including deep gorges, valleys, and highland plateaus. It is home to rare and endemic flora and fauna, including the red panda, the Asian golden cat, and the barking deer. The park's landscape boasts lush greenery, with dense subtropical and deciduous forests. The rich biodiversity of the park is further accentuated by the presence of several medicinal herbs, which local healers often use.
