Getting to Baluarte Zoo

Baluarte Zoo is located in the historic city of Vigan, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the northern part of the Philippines.

By Air

The nearest airport to Vigan is Laoag International Airport (LAO). From there, you can rent a car or take a bus to Vigan. The travel time is typically around 1.5 to 2 hours.

By Land

From Manila: You can take a bus bound for Vigan. The journey may take approximately 6-8 hours depending on the traffic condition. Bus lines such as Partas, Dominion Bus Lines, and Viron Transit offer daily trips to Vigan.

Private Vehicle: If you are coming from Manila via private car, take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and continue onto the Subic–Clark–Tarl at Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX). Follow the signs leading to Ilocos, which will take you through La Union, then Ilocos Sur, with Vigan being the capital.

Once in Vigan

To reach Baluarte Zoo from the city center, you can hire a tricycle or a calesa (horse-drawn carriage), which are both locally available forms of transportation. It's just a short ride approximately 10-15 minutes from the heart of Vigan.

Essential Tips

• Check the weather forecast before planning your trip, as Vigan can be hot during summer and rainy in the wet season.
• Do not forget to bring hats, sunscreen, and water as the zoo is mainly outdoors and can get quite warm.
• Consider visiting the zoo in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
• Baluarte Zoo has no entrance fee, but some attractions inside might have separate charges.
