The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is an emblematic and historic Roman Catholic church located in Cebur City, Philippines. Founded in the 16th century by Spanish explorers led by Miguel López de Legazpi, the church is considered the oldest in the country, symbolizing the birth of Christianity in the Philippines. The basilica is built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebú, a revered statue of the Infant Jesus, was found by Spanish explorers in 1565, remarkably preserved after a fire destroyed the structure where it was housed. Today, the Basilica is a site of vibrant religious importance, drawing pilgrims and tourists from around the world, especially during the annual Sinulog Festival, which celebrates the Feast of the Santo Niño in January. The architecture reflects a blend of Muslim, Romanesque, and neo-classicism styles. Within the basilica's museum, various religious artifacts and ancient documents are on display, offering insights into the region's rich cultural and religious history.
