The Birmingham Back to Backs, also known as Court 15, are the city's last surviving court of back-to-back houses located at 50-54 Inge Street and 55-63 Hurst Street, near the Bullring shopping center in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Managed by the National Trust, these houses provide a rare glimpse into the lives of the working people who helped forge Birmingham's industrial heritage. The back-to-backs were built during the 19th century to accommodate the rapidly increasing population due to the Industrial Revolution. Designed to maximize the use of space, these houses shared rear walls and were arranged around a communal courtyard, with communal toilets and a single water pump. They were inhabited until the 1970s and have been carefully restored to reflect the period from the 1840s to the 1970s, portraying the diverse communities that settled in Birmingham over the years. A guided tour offers insights into the living conditions, customs, and stories of past inhabitants, making it a compelling educational and cultural experience.
