Visitors have several options for reaching the Bodleian Library, located in the heart of Oxford.
From London: You can take a train from London Paddington to Oxford. The journey usually takes about an hour. Once you arrive at Oxford railway station, the Bodleian Library is about a 15-minute walk through the city center.
From London: The Oxford Tube and X90 services operate frequent coach trips from London Victoria Coach Station to Oxford. The ride can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Alight at the High Street or Queen’s Lane stops, which are the closest to the Bodleian Library.
Driving to Oxford city center is not recommended due to traffic and parking restrictions. However, if you choose to drive, use the Park and Ride services located around Oxford's ring road. The most convenient for the city center are Seacourt, Redbridge, or Pear Tree. From these, you can take a short bus ride into the city center.
Parking in central Oxford is extremely limited and visitors are encouraged to use Park and Ride. If you must park in the city, the nearest public car parks are at Oxpens, Gloucester Green, and Westgate Shopping Centre.
If you are arriving by air, the closest major airports are Heathrow and Gatwick. Direct coach services such as The Airline operate from these airports to Oxford.
Once in Oxford, the Bodleian Library is well-signposted, and most people find it easily on foot.
Consider using a city sightseeing bus which offers hop-on, hop-off services, including stops near the Bodleian Library. It’s an excellent way to get acquainted with the city if you're a first-time visitor.
