Canterbury Historic River Tours - Food History

Canterbury, a cathedral city in Kent, England, has a rich food history that is both traditional and infused with contemporary influences. The Canterbury Historic River Tours, while principally focused on guiding visitors through the waterways and informing them about the city's history and architecture, does not specifically serve food as part of the tour. However, the gastronomic culture of Canterbury is reflective of its history, with a mixture of classic British fare and a growing variety of international cuisine due to its status as a cultural hub and tourist destination.

The area surrounding the River Stour, where the tours take place, is dotted with numerous eateries and food outlets where one can enjoy local and international foods. The local cuisine has been largely influenced by Kent's status as the "Garden of England," with a plentiful supply of local fruits, vegetables, and hops used for brewing traditional ales. Historically, Canterbury has been a place where travelers and pilgrims, particularly those visiting the Canterbury Cathedral, would stop for sustenance, thus creating a demand for local eateries and pubs.
