Best Time To Visit Curonian Spit (Kaliningrad) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Curonian Spit, Kaliningrad, Russia

The best time to visit the Curonian Spit, a stunning 98-kilometer long sand dune spit that divides the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea, is from late spring to early autumn, approximately from May to September. During this period, you'll enjoy the most pleasant weather, with mild to warm temperatures, suitable both for sightseeing and enjoying the unique natural beauty of the area. May brings forth the fresh green of the forests and is ideal for bird watching, as many species migrate through the region. Towards June and July, the region comes into full bloom, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), perfect for beach activities, hiking, and exploring the cultural heritage sights without the discomfort of extreme heat.

In August and September, the weather remains warm, usually hovering around 18°C to 23°C (64°F to 73°F), and the water of the Baltic Sea is at its warmest, making it a delightful time for swimming and water sports. This period is generally less crowded than the peak summer months, offering a more relaxed atmosphere. Autumn colors begin to emerge in September, creating a picturesque landscape ideal for photography enthusiasts. However, keep in mind, as you approach late September, the temperatures start to drop, and the days get shorter, signaling the end of the ideal visiting window. It's also worth considering that the region can be quite windy, so bring light layers even in the summer to stay comfortable during your visit.
