The cuisine of the coastal region of Bangladesh, including Fatrar Char (Fatrar Island) in Kuakata, is anchored deeply in its geographical bounty and the cultural amalgamation of the diverse communities residing there. Primarily a fishing community, the culinary traditions are heavily dominated by seafood with an emphasis on fresh fish, shrimp, and crab. Additionally, the influence of the indigenous Rakhine community, who originally hailed from Myanmar, is also prominent. Their cuisine is characterized by the usage of aromatic spices and distinctive cooking methods, integrating the local ingredients available on the island and surrounding areas. Coconut, rice, and various kinds of lentils also form the staple diet, complementing the seafood and vegetable dishes.
