Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is an iconic shopping arcade situated in the heart of Milan, Italy. It's one of the world's oldest shopping malls, designed in 1861 and built between 1865 and 1877. This architectural marvel was named after Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. The Galleria connects two of Milan’s most famous landmarks: the Duomo Cathedral and the Teatro Alla Scala. Its impressive structure features a glass and iron roof, a design that was pioneering at the time of its construction. The cross-shaped mall is covered by an arching glass dome over the center octagon, while the four passageways are lined with elegant shops, restaurants, and cafes. The floor is adorned with mosaics representing the coats of arms of the three capitals of the Kingdom of Italy (Turin, Florence, and Rome) along with Milan's. A particular tradition is spinning on the bull's testicles depicted in the mosaic of Turin's coat of arms, which is said to bring good luck. Designer boutiques like Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci attract fashion enthusiasts, making it a paradise for luxury shopping and a prime example of the Italian elegance and style.
