The Great Mosque of Xi'an, located in the heart of Xi'an city within the Shaanxi province of China, stands as a historic monument blending both Chinese architecture and Islamic tradition. Founded in 742 AD during the Tang Dynasty, it is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China. Spanning over 12,000 square meters, its design follows traditional Chinese architectural style rather than the typical Islamic style, featuring a succession of five courtyards lined with platforms, pavilions, and halls. Inside, the mosque's prayer hall can accommodate up to 1,000 worshipers. Despite its Chinese architectural elements, Arabic calligraphy and Islamic motifs are evident throughout the complex, striking a unique cultural harmony. The mosque is a silent witness to the historical Silk Road that facilitated trade and cultural exchanges between the East and the West. Over the years, it has become not only a place of worship for the Muslim community but also a site of profound historical and cultural significance, attracting tourists and scholars worldwide who are interested in the interlacing of ancient Chinese and Islamic cultures.
