Green Island is an artificial island and a popular tourist attraction located off the coast in the Hawalli Governorate, in the State of Kuwait. Opened to the public in 1988, it was the first artificial island in the Gulf region. Spanning an area of about 785,000 square meters, the island was created using rocks and sand dredged from the seabed. Boasting a myriad of recreational facilities and scenic walkways, Green Island provides visitors with an escape from the bustural everyday life. Attractions include an amphitheater, a tower offering panoramic views, a swimming pool, and a range of restaurants and cafés. Families often visit for picnicking and to enjoy the landscaped gardens and the artificial lakes. Green Island is also a venue for various events and festivals throughout the year. The island is linked to the main coastline by a 134-meter long bridge, making it easily accessible for both local residents and international tourists. Its lush greenery and tranquil surroundings offer a stark contrast to the desert landscape of Kuwait, and the island serves as a symbol of the country's innovative development in leisure and tourism.
