Best Time To Visit Hakone OpenAir Museum (Hakone) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Hakone Open-Air Museum

The ideal time to visit the Hakone Open-Air Museum is during the spring or fall months, specifically from March to May and September to November. During spring, visitors are treated to pleasant weather and the blooming of cherry blossoms, adding an extra layer of beauty to the outdoor art installations. Similarly, autumn in Hakone is striking, with the changing leaves providing a colorful backdrop to the sculptures and exhibits. These seasons offer comfortable temperatures for spending hours outdoors exploring the works of art. It's important to note that weekends and national holidays might be busier, so if you're looking to avoid the crowds, aim to visit on a weekday.

Visitors should also consider the museum's opening hours and any planned events or exhibitions that might enhance the visiting experience. The Hakone Open-Air Museum typically opens from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the last admission at 4:30 pm. Checking the museum's official website before your visit can inform you about any temporary closures or changes in the schedule. Weather-wise, it is wise to be equipped with layers as even in spring and fall, morning and evening temperatures can be cool. In case you plan to visit during summer or winter, be prepared for hot, humid weather from June to August, and cold, potentially snowy conditions from December to February.
