The History of Tourism in Hua Hin

Hua Hin's history as a tourist destination dates back to the 1920s when it became a royal retreat for the Thai monarchy. The construction of the Railway Hotel (now the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin) and the Hua Hin Railway Station were pivotal in turning this quiet fishing village into a bustling seaside resort. By the mid-20th century, Hua Hin had established itself as one of Thailand's premier beach destinations, drawing both local and international tourists.

The Emergence of the Hutsadin Elephant Foundation

The Hutsadin Elephant Foundation was established later, amidst a growing trend of ethical tourism that started gaining momentum in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. As visitors to Thailand became more aware of conservation issues and the importance of ethical treatment of animals, the foundation stepped up as a sanctuary dedicated to the care of elephants who could no longer work and needed a place to live out their lives with dignity.

The Foundation offers visitors the opportunity to learn about elephants, interact with them in a responsible manner, and support the organization's mission. They offer various programs, including elephant walks, where visitors can accompany elephants on their daily exercise, and mahout experience programs, allowing guests to learn about the care and management of these gentle giants.
