Kan Thar Yar Lake is located in HpaAn, the capital of Kayin State in Myanmar. As a scenic destination close to the Thanlwin River, the lake is not only a place of natural beauty but also a spot where visitors can experience the local cuisine influenced by both Burma's (Myanmar’s) rich culinary tradition and the distinctive flavors of Kayin State. The cuisine in and around Kan Thar Yar Lake reflects the diversity of Myanmar itself, where the food is enriched by neighboring countries like Thailand, China, and India. However, the Kayin cuisine has its uniqueness with a greater emphasis on locally sourced freshwater fish, legumes, vegetables, and rice - staple components of the Burmese diet. Traditional cooking methods, such as using banana leaves for wrapping food and bamboo tubes for boiling or grilling, are still practiced.
