Getting to Kumamoto Castle

Kumamoto Castle is one of the most impressive and important castles in Japan. It is located in the city of Kumamoto in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu.

By Air

Kumamoto Airport (KMJ) is the nearest airport to the castle. From there, you can take a bus to the city center which takes about 50 minutes. The airport has numerous flights to major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.

By Train

The Kumamoto Station is another main entry point, especially for travelers using the railway system. It is a major stop on the Kyushu Shinkansen line, making it easily accessible from cities like Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kagoshima.

By Bus

Long-distance buses connect Kumamoto to various other cities on Kyushu.

From Kumamoto Station to Kumamoto Castle

Upon reaching the Kumamoto Station, the castle is just a short tram or bus ride away. You can take the Kumamoto City Tram and get off at the "Kumamotojo-mae" stop, or take a bus that goes directly to the castle.

By Car

If you are driving, take note that there are several parking options near the castle. However, the area can be quite congested, especially on weekends and holidays.

Kumamoto Castle is open to the public throughout the year, but hours may change during public holidays or special events. It is typically open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
