Savannakhet Airport (ZVK) is the nearest airport to Lao Silk Road. Although it's a small airport, it provides access to domestic flights from Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and limited international flights. Visitors can fly into Vientialias Wattay International Airport (VTE) first and then get a connecting flight to Savannakhet.
Upon landing, travelers can hire a taxi or arrange for a hotel pickup to reach the Lao Silk Road.
Savannakhet stands on Route 9, which is part of the East-West Economic Corridor linking Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Coming from Vientiane, visitors can use public buses or rent a car to make the journey, which takes approximately 8-9 hours.
From Thailand, you can cross the Friendship Bridge II at Mukdahan into Savannakhet. Once you arrive in the city, local transportation or tuk-tuks can be taken to reach the Lao Silk Road.
For a more scenic route, opt for a trip along the Mekong River. Although it's less common, it is possible to find boat transportation from certain points along the Mekong to Savannakhet. Once there, local transport is required to get to your destination.
