Loukoi Pat Lake Tourism

Loktak Lake, situated in Thoubal district, is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is famous for its circular floating swamps (Phumdi) in Manipur. It plays an integral role in the economy of Manipur, serving as a source of water for hydropower generation, irrigation, and drinking water supply. The lake is rich in biodiversity with its unique flora and fauna; including the endangered Sangai deer found in the Keibul Lamjao National Park, the only floating park in the world, which is situated at one end of the lake. This picturesque lake has several islands, including the tourist favorite Sendra Island. The lake is also an important bird area as recognized by BirdLife International for its rich avifauna. It offers a glimpse of the local fisherman's lifestyle who lives in the surrounding areas and primarily depend on the lake for their livelihood. Loukoi Pat Lake, often considered a part of the larger Loktak Lake area, inherits similar ecological and cultural characteristics. The expansive stretch of water, coupled with the stunning landscape, makes it an attractive destination for both tourists and nature lovers.
