Best Time to Visit Mithun Sanctuary, Along (Aalo), Arunachal Pradesh

The ideal time to visit the Mithun Sanctuary in Along, also known as Aalo, in Arunachal Pradesh is during the post-monsoon and winter months, extending from October to April. During this period, the climate is pleasantly cool with minimal rainfall, making it perfect for wildlife viewing and enjoying the lush landscapes. The average temperature ranges between 11°C to 24°C, which is comfortable for exploring the sanctuary, trekking, and engaging in outdoor activities. It is important to note that the region experiences heavy rainfall from May to September, which can lead to slippery trails and may restrict movement due to potential landslides. Thus, the post-monsoon season provides a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors.

Between October and April, apart from the conducive weather, the region celebrates several cultural festivals, which can add to the overall experience of your visit. For example, the Losar Festival in February, which marks the Tibetan New Year, showcases the vibrant traditions of the area. As the sanctuary is home to the majestic mithun, a semi-domesticated bovine revered by local tribes, visiting during a festival can provide a deeper insight into the significance of these animals in local culture. Additionally, the clarity of the skies during these months ensures that your excursions around the sanctuary are met with exceptional views of the forested hills and a high chance of spotting wildlife.
