Food History of National Museum of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, Tajikistan

Tajik cuisine, deeply rooted in the country’s history and culture, is a blend of Persian and Russian influences with a profound emphasis on high-altitude farming and livestock herding traditions. Although the National Museum of Tajikistan is more focused on the country's history, art, and culture rather than its culinary history, the food culture is indirectly connected as it is an integral part of Tajik heritage.

The cuisine in Dushanbe and the wider Tajikistan region is usually marked by the use of rice, legumes, vegetables, and fruits, reflecting the agrarian lifestyle. Non-cow meat dishes, predominantly lamb and chicken, along with a rich ensemble of dairy produce, play a significant role in the local diet. Vegetarian dishes are also prominent because of the wide variety of vegetables and fruits grown in the region.
