Ideal visit duration: 1-2 hours
Notre Dame Cathedral, an enduring symbol of Paris, is located on the Île de la Cité, a small island in the heart of the city. The cathedral is one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, characterized by its sculptural decorations and stunning stained glass. Construction began in the 12th century and spanned over 200 years, reflecting an array of Gothic elements and styles. It has been a witness to many of France’s historical events, from the coronations of kings to the celebration of liberations. Unfortunately, a devastating fire broke out in April 2019, causing the spire and part of the roof to collapse. Restoration efforts are underway to bring the cathedral back to its former glory. Its iconic façade, twin towers, and remarkable rose windows continue to draw visitors from around the world despite the damages.
