Ideal visit duration: 2-3 hours
Parc de l'Orangerie is the oldest public park in Strasbourg, located in the northeast part of the city near the European institutions. This verdant haven covers over 26 hectares and is filled with a variety of attractions that appeal to both tourists and locals. The park boasts meticulously manicured gardens, a lake where one can rent boats during warmer months, and a free zoo that is home to various animal species. Visitors can also enjoy a mini-farm, stork reintroduction center, and a bowling pitch. Notably, the Parc de l'Orangerie hosts the Buerehiesel, a building designed by the renowned architect Gustave Oberthür in 1884, which currently houses a high-end restaurant run by Chef Eric Westermann. Within the park grounds, the Pavillon Joséphine serves as a venue for events and exhibitions. This idyllic spot offers walking paths, playgrounds for children, and numerous benches for relaxation. Its beauty across the seasons, complemented by the charming waterfalls and fountains, makes it an enchanting location. The park also reflects the city's historical significance, honoring the bonds between France and its Eastern neighbors through the presence of the Europe monument and the memorial for the victims of repression in Alsace and Lorraine.
