Place Kléber is the largest square in the centre of the city of Strasbourg in the heart of the city's commercial area. Named after general Jean-Baptiste Kléber, born in Strasbourg in 1753, the square is home to a statue in his honor. Place Kléber is a central gathering place that hosts many events and is surrounded by historic buildings. The Aubette building to the north-east of the square, a former military building and now a entertainment complex, is a testament to the square's historical significance. The square is also near the Strasbourg Cathedral and Palais Rohan. Strasbourg's famous Christmas Market also extends to Place Kléber, where a giant Christmas tree can be found during the holiday season. Throughout the year, locals and tourists frequent the many shops, restaurants, and cafes located around the square. Place Kléber was largely renovated in the year 2000 and today includes a large pedestrian area. It is a significant urban space where people come to meet, relax, and participate in public events.
