Place Masséna is a historical and central square located in Nice, France. This iconic public space is named after André Masséna, a prominent marshal during the Napoleonic Wars. The square is renowned for its striking architecture, which is a blend of Italian and French styles, reflecting Nice's history and its location close to the Italian border. Notable for its checkerboard paving, Place Masséna is surrounded by elegant buildings painted in warm, Mediterranean colors with ochre facades and green shutters. The square is a hub for public events, parades, and gatherings, especially during the Nice Carnival that attracts visitors globally. The Fontaine du Soleil with its impressive statue of Apollo is a central feature, while to the east, the Jardin Albert I provides a lush, green respite from the urban surroundings. Seven statues, 'Conversation à Nice' by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa, represent seven continents and stand atop poles, lighting up at night. Place Masséna is also a major shopping destination, with the nearby Avenue Jean Médecin hosting numerous boutiques and stores.
